Term 4 Week 4 2023
Prayer
Message From The Principal
Dear families and friends of St Anthony’s,
It is about this time of year that we all try to take a collective breath and steel ourselves for the maelstrom of events and activities that are about to ramp up. Just over the next two weeks we’ll have swimming, excursions, testing and assessments, triathlon, basketball tournament for Grade 3/4 and more that I haven’t mentioned. And that’s just the school events, I’m sure that your families have more activities on top of these ones!
We understand how busy it is during this time of year but we also understand the importance of these events for our students. Take the All Schools Triathlon for example. This is an event that our school participates in but it is organised outside of our system and is an added cost and responsibility for you and for our school. But, having attended this event myself and seeing the enthusiasm and excitement that it generates among our students and because it is a unique experience - we do it. And it is just one of the things that we do during this busy season for our students.
So, we’ll all have some late nights and early mornings (and probably a few stiff drinks) over the next few weeks, but we’ll do it and we’ll get through. We’ll get through as a school just as you will as a family, for the same reason - because we care about our kids. Just don’t overdo the drinks!
Sincerely,
Jason Perry
Principal

Ochre Painting with Bianca Templar
Kinder, Prep and Grade 1 learnt about indigenous symbols and using ochre to paint. Thank you Bianca for visiting us at St Anthony’s and sharing your culture with us.
In week 2, Grade 1 hosted our school assembly, and our theme was World Teachers Day. As part of this theme, the children brainstormed what they considered makes a good teacher. Some of the students shared their thoughts during the assembly.
Just Leadership Day
On Wednesday 1st November, a group of Year 5 students along with Mrs Bartush attended the Caritas Just Leadership Day. This year St Anthony’s hosted the event with other Year 5 students from other Northern Catholic schools participating.
Just Leadership Days enable students to develop a respect for the poor and sense of responsibility as a global citizen. Students become more active in social justice activities in and out of school.
The aims of Just Leadership Days are to:
- Identify local, national and global issues of justice.
- Actively engage students in a process that helps them recognise they have the resources, the power and the responsibility to work for change.
- Identify what constitutes good leadership and why it's important to be a leader in this domain.
- Explore the qualities of leadership through the lens of Catholic Social Teaching.
- To resource and empower student leaders to promote Project Compassion, our annual fundraising and awareness-raising campaign, in their schools.
LAST CALL FOR CHRISTMAS PARADE 2023!
If your child would like to join us in the Launceston Christmas Parade this year, please email emma.marshall@catholic.tas.edu.au or contact the school office.
The Christmas Parade is on Saturday, 2nd December 2023.
Emergency Practice
Within the next few weeks we will hold an unannounced emergency practice with staff and students, to test our response to a potential scenario where staff may identify a threat which would warrant the school to go into lockdown (opposite to evacuation).
Like for fire evacuation drills, we recognise the worth to test this process.
We have plans in place to make this practice as least disruptive as possible.
If you have queries please call our Safety Officer, Katie Gardner on 0456 849 497
Online Safety
People usually know how to keep themselves safe offline, but it's not always the case when we go online. In our latest initiative, we compare online safety to everyday objects that keep you safe – just like eSafety does when you go online.
When it comes to online safety, we can help. We educate Australians about online safety risks and help to remove harmful content such as cyberbullying of children and young people, adult cyber abuse, image-based abuse and illegal and restricted content.
Help get the word out about online safety! Forward this email to friends, family or share in your school newsletter and let your network know there’s support available if they experience online abuse.
The eSafety Commissioner can support with:
- Advice for parents, kids and young people on staying safe online
- Classroom materials and professional training on online safety for educators
- Resources to keep vulnerable communities safe
- Investigating reports of serious online harm and help with removal of this content.
