From The Principal

Dear families and friends of St Anthony’s,
A warm welcome back to Term 3. The students have settled back in seamlessly and have been working hard over the last couple of weeks. We have been fortunate enough to have some visitors from Catholic Education this week who were very impressed with both our students and their level of engagement in their learning as well the amazing job our teachers continue to do.
We are all looking forward to a productive second half of the year.
Seven Steps for Writing
In the first two terms of 2025, we have been implementing a writing program called Seven Steps of Writing which empowers our students to work through seven sections of a text, mastering each section and then putting it together to construct the most effective text they can. The benefits of this approach is that by breaking the text down into manageable steps it is more manageable and students are able to build their confidence through practising each step until they are ready to put it all together.
Step 1 is Plan for Success where students come up with lots of ideas and select the best ones to construct an engaging text tailored to the audience and purpose. Stage 2 is Sizzling Starts, which encourages students to ‘hook’ the reader in immediately by using a range of techniques such as questions, quotations or an anecdote. As you know, if you can’t ‘hook’ the reader to begin with, the chances of them completing the text are reduced. Below is an example of a super starter written by one of our students as part of a persuasive text entitled ‘Snakes are more dangerous than spiders.’ I’m sure you’ll agree that this Sizzling Start makes you want to read on….
Many people believe that spiders are more dangerous than snakes; they are wrong! Snakes are by far more dangerous than spiders because people have died from snakes, they have HUGE fangs, and they can blend into their surroundings, which is just scary.
We look forward to seeing more growth in writing as we continue throughout the second half of the term.
Sincerely,
Adele Murphy
Principal

Celebrating Grandparents and 100 Days of School!
A big thank you to all the wonderful grandparents and special guests who joined this year. It was a joy to welcome you into our classrooms and see students proudly sharing their learning. Thank you to Grade 1/2 for leading our prayer service.
A special shout-out to our Preps, who celebrated 100 days of school! We loved seeing our students dressed as 100-year-olds and celebrating this exciting milestone in their learning journey.
