Term 1 Week 10 Newsletter
Prayer

From the Principal
What a wonderful start to the year we have had at St Anthony’s. Many opportunities have been available for all members of our community including students, staff and parents. At the conclusion of our term, we are about to enter into a significant time in the Liturgical calendar, Holy week. Holy Week is the week prior to Easter concluding with the resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday. On our last day of school for the students, Thursday 10th April, we gathered to extend our learning and understanding of special events leading up to Easter Sunday including Palm Sunday and Good Friday. Upon return we will celebrate the resurrection of Christ in another prayer service concluding with an Easter Bonnet parade from our Early Learning, Kinder, Prep, Grade 1 and 2 students.
During these moments and within our classrooms we will be encouraging our students to engage in reflection as a part of the process of spiritual renewal. When we take time to reflect upon how we behave, what values drive us and how we relate to and treat others we are prioritising and acknowledging the journey we are on to become our best selves both as individuals and community members. During Holy Week everyone in our community has the opportunity to reflect and learn about love, humility, service and hope and the power of forgiveness and redemption through Jesus’ passion, death and resurrection. Through this process, at St Anthony’s we can become even stronger as a collaborative community where everyone is accepted and respected and working towards the greater good.
Wishing everyone a restful holiday period with family and loved ones.
Sincerely,
Adele Murphy
Principal
NIJSSA Report
On Thursday 27th March, some students participated in the inter-schools swimming competition. We had such a great time cheering, and of course, swimming! Everyone there tried their absolute best and represented our school with pride. It was a long, tiring day for our students, but we managed to make it to the end of the day.
We all slept really well that night!
We went up against Scotch Oakburn, STM, Sacred Heart, LPS, Larminer, Grammar, LCS and St Finn Barr's. They were all quite tough opponents, but Scotch came out on top, with their incredible swimmers leading the charge. All the schools put up a good fight, but at the end of the day it was all just about having some fun!
Some of our students even took out some 1sts, 2nds and 3rds! Congratulations to all the students who participated in the NIJSSA swimming carnival! A really big thanks to all the parents and teachers who came along to the Riverside pool and helped out. The day wouldn’t have gone ahead without you!

Grade 3/4 Basketball Tournament
On the weekend we competed in the 3/4 basketball tournament. We had a blast! Miss Murphy, Mrs Marshall and Mrs de Deuge all came came to support us. Although we didn't win, we still showed good sportsmanship for the whole weekend. When we finished each game we said "good game" to make them and us feel proud of what we had achieved.
Before each game we practiced layups and passes to make sure we played our best. After the two games on Saturday the team and their parents went out for dinner at Ducane.
During the game we had Powerade and lollies to keep us energetic and to keep us moving through the game. We have now finished all four games and we are proud of our team and ourselves.

5/6 Basketball Tournament Report
Recently a group of Grade 5/6 students participated in the school basketball tournament. With one 5/6 girls team and one 5/6 boys team taking the court.
The girls team won 2 of their 4 hard fought games. Kinsey and Grace played hard and were diving on every loose ball, and came home with a few bruises. In one game Ivy scored a game winning buzzer beater!
The boys won against Youngstown's team by a staggering 32 points, scoring 45 points in total. Noah R scored 10 points and Hunter scored 32 points, bringing the team a marvellous win.
Our sportsmanship was fantastic, with lots of enthusiastic smiles and high fives from all players! This weekend wouldn't have been possible without the amazing basketball skills and commitment from the players! A huge thanks to our coaches, family, teachers, and friends who helped us out! Also, thanks for LBA for putting on the tournament!
