From the Principal
“It’s your reaction to adversity, not adversity itself that determines how your life’s story will develop.”
― Dieter F. Uchtdorf
At different times in our life we all experience challenges. The important thing is how we respond to these challenges. Maggie Dent, parenting author, describes resilience as “the ability to successfully manage life, and adapt to change and stressful events in healthy and constructive ways. It is about the capacity to bounce back from positive and negative life experiences.”
For us, as adults, it is important to model resilience to our children and teach them the skills to be resilient which will serve them well in adulthood. Maggie Dent has a podcast ‘Parental as Anything’ where she discusses how to raise resilient children who can handle unexpected life challenges. Often as parents, our gut reactions are to protect and shelter our children but this can be detrimental to the development of their resilience. We want our children to persevere and solve situations by themselves. If we step in too early or do too much for our children, whilst with good intention, we can sometimes inadvertently be sending the message that they are not capable of doing it themselves and taking away from them the opportunity to work through a tricky situation to practice and develop the skills of resilience.
“Persistence and resilience only come from having been given the chance to work through difficult problems.” ― Gever Tulley

School Effectiveness Survey
On Monday 24th March you should have received a hard copy of a letter with information about a survey conducted by Insight SRC on behalf of St Anthony's Catholic School and Catholic Education Tasmania. As previously mentioned, it is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of parents’ perceptions of their children’s experience of school. The results will benefit everyone within the school by providing valuable information about how the school can use staff, student and parent input to plan programs and activities to improve your child’s experience at school.
Whilst your participation is voluntary, it is important to remember that the success of this important project is dependent on the involvement of all parents. If you could take the time to fill out the survey it would be greatly appreciated. The survey will be open for submissions until Friday 4th April.
Awards Assembly (Prep - Grade 6)

Last Day Term 1

Anzac Day
All students are invited to participate in this year's Anzac Day March and Civil Service on Friday 25th April. We will gather at the Coles carpark in Charles St at 9:30 and then move across to Princes Square and assemble for the march. We will march down Charles St, turn left at Patterson St to the cenotaph for the 11:00 am service. After the March students can be collected from Miss Murphy from outside Launceston College on Patterson St. The captains will remain to participate in the civil service and lay a wreath on behalf of St Anthony's. Veterans, active or retired service personnel, and any parents who would like to assist with supervision are invited to march with us. Students may wear family medals on the right side of their chest.
A Compass post with further details and permission for attendees has been sent. Please indicate whether your child will be attending so we have accurate numbers.
Sincerely,
Adele Murphy
Principal
