From the Principal
Dear families and friends of St Anthony’s,
Welcome to 2025. As I mentioned in my welcome letter last week, I am excited to become a part of the St Anthony’s community and feel blessed to be working with the amazing staff, parents, wider community and of course students. In our gathering on Monday morning I encouraged the students to assist me in getting to know them all by name by seeking me out and introducing themselves, which I’m pleased to say many have done so. I will be on morning duty most days out the front of the school so feel free to do the same and come and have a chat when you drop your children off. It has been a settled start to the year and I am looking forward to working with you in partnership to maintain the positive vibe and productive learning that currently exists.
Welcome BBQ
Another opportunity to get to know people in the St Anthony’s community is to attend our Welcome BBQ on Thursday, 27th February from 5 - 6:30 pm. The BBQ is a chance to gather as a community, build relationships, form connections, reconnect with old friends and make new ones.
Getting to Know You Meetings
The first of our Parent Student Teacher meetings, “Getting to Know You’, will be held in week 3 after school on Wednesday and Thursday. Mrs Emma Marshall has sent out a COMPASS notification with the details. Each 10 minute time slot will be an opportunity for you to share with the teacher about your child. Don’t forget to return the ‘Getting to Know You’ sheet as soon as possible.
Beginning of Year Mass
We are excited to invite you to the Beginning of Year Mass at St Anthony's Catholic School, Riverside. This special event will be held at 9:15 AM in the school hall on Friday 21st February. Pope Francis has designated the 2025 Holy Year as a time for renewal and spiritual growth, and our Jubilee theme, "Pilgrims of Hope," reflects this journey in faith, hope, and unity. We look forward to welcoming you as we start this new year with blessings and shared aspirations. We would encourage as many parents as possible to attend. Mrs Emma Marshall will be presenting our 2025 School Leaders with their badges as I will be attending the Northern Principal Meeting.
Grade 5/6 camp
Mrs Emma Marshall will be attending the grade 5/6 camp on Wednesday and then I will be swapping with her on Thursday. During this time Mrs Biance de Deuge will be the consistent leadership member staying at school.
Sincerely,
Adele Murphy
Principal

Set Up for Success (St Anthony’s Explorers)
Explorers is our free early learning and parent engagement program for children from birth to five years old. The sessions are held every Friday morning in our Kindergarten room during term time from 9:00am-10:30am.
Please spread the word to any families you may know to come and join us for an morning of engaging activities, music and stories.
Explorers will commence on Friday 28th February. There is no need to book.
Car Park
To model road safety for our children, when walking through the car park, please use the pedestrian crossing and footpath around the turning circle, rather than crossing the driveway or through the turning circle.
School Hours
Classes commence each day at 8:45 am and finish at 2:55 pm. The first bell will sound at 8:45 am to alert students to move to their classroom. The supervision of students at school begins at 8:30 am. If your child is arriving late to school (after 8:50am), you will need to sign your child in at the school office.
CatholicCare Tasmania do provide before and after school care on site at St Anthony’s, please click here for further information.
Pick-Up
School finishes at 2:55 pm each day and our driveway and West Tamar Road can become very congested at this time. To avoid vehicles blocking the driveway and consequently banking up on West Tamar Road, which poses a safety risk to commuters on this busy road.
We love to see you around the school, so if you are able, please park in the car park and collect your child from their classroom or from the parent pickup shelter.
If the car park is full, please start to queue behind the buses, leaving space in other vehicles to use the inner turning circle if needed.
If you are unable to collect your child before 3:20pm, then please contact CatholicCare Tasmania, as previously mentioned.

Communication
There are a variety of platforms where we communicate and share information with families and the wider community. Our primary means of communication is Compass. It is vital that all parents download the Compass app and check both Compass and email regularly for updates. Therefore, if your child will be absent, please notify the school using the Compass app.
Please refer to the communication infographic attached for further information on the various online platforms utilised by the school.
If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s schooling experience, your child’s classroom teacher is the first and best port of call.
